I love it! :) Good job getting frontpaged too, you deserve it :)

DUMMYDINO responds:

thanks so much!!! :)

I really like this! The lighting is very nice. :) I have a quick question, though, when you go about creating clothes for characters in these sorta fantasy environments, do you look up references? I want to get better at designing clothing.

horizon-hugger responds:

TY!!
yes use references for sure. normally I do use references for clothes, but in this case I just doodled around from imagination. I played a lot of Warcraft/WoW which has hundreds of good examples of fantasy clothing, and it's something I've looked at lots of times before to study.

I really love all the sharp angles you put into the characters and the shading in your art. :)

Avis1 responds:

Thank you! Expect more of the same!

Good job! :) I'm impressed you got frontpaged on your first post.

SanderVB responds:

Thanks! Yeah guess I got pretty lucky with that :)

You have a really pleasing 3D style! :)

TheLapisBlock responds:

Thanks!

Jesus! those are some huge hairs!

ArtistaenPijama responds:

I love huge hairs!!! ❤️

I did that tutorial too! lol. I wish I stuck with the other ones, I would have been far better at Blender by now.

brintc responds:

tbh I still don't understand a lot of it lol super overwhelming! But I want to stick with it hopefully.

The way you do shading is really interesting! I'm curious about what your process when you go about doing it. :)

cheesycoke responds:

Oh man thank you so much!! Super glad since it takes me a lotta work. Dunno if I could break it down fully but it basically involves blotting in pure black shadows, lining then filling colored shadows according to what I think looks good for the pic, blotting in highlights either in the color of whatever the light source is or whatever I think looks good, and then adding a lil colored "bounce light" to the edge of the shadows (That's the yellow you see, like, toward some of her edges).
I'll also make the shading a bit more jagged depending on how rough the surface is (i.e. socks get smooth shading but fur is more messy/rugged) as a cheap way to add texture

Where did you learn to draw anatomy? I'm trying to get better at it myself. :)

SephyTCD responds:

Well firstly I was being influenced by whatever the hell I was into during my first artistic endeavors which at the time was jojo, but then Saint Seiya came along and Kinnikuman after that, and those manga really helped take the complex poses and dynamism of anatomy and simplify it into something I could understand, while the whole time I was notice things in real life like on my own body and other people. Eventually I found old capcom fighting game artists like bengus and mixing that with my love for anatomy and utilization of it, I slowly just put together a sense and understanding of it until I was satisfied with in terms of anatomy and slowly got my own thing goin', slowly just getting inspired and cribbing little things from various pieces of media I happen upon.

As a bit of advice, something I always kept in mind is how the entire body reacts to a motion, and its important to think of ways to keep the body unstiff looking, give it some sort natural feeling and be interested in the weird intricacies of the body.

I like to draw funny cartoon characters. Hopefully for a living some day.
